  1. At the beginning of the reading, Braiker described a scene in his kitchen with his daughter and father. Talk about what he did and his father's reactions to what he did. And how he compared to fatherhood now (his generation) and fatherhood before (his dad's generation).

    1. My response to this is that modern dads like Braiker differ from the past or previous dads because he knows every little detail of his daughter and also watches her a lot. Braiker's dad was surprised of how Braiker lifted up his daughter and checking her diaper. His dad was surprised because during their generation they only work and provide for their family, and mostly the moms focuses on they're childrens. He also thinks that this change has occurred because dads nowadays shows love and affection to their kids. They spent more time with their children.

    2. Barry's comment is very true. I also believe that modern dads are different from the previous dads. Seeing how his dad was surprised, it shows how Braiker's dad ddn't also do what Braiker does. Also, spending time with kids is very important in their lives.

  2. Surprisingly, he suddenly grabbed his father's attention by hoist up his daughter and sniffed her bottom. His father were kind of shock because he never did something like that to him nor his brother. To his father is like a big differ father's action to their kids from having life back to those days when he was with his kids. Braiker's generation was more interesting and self attachment to living thing which can make a happy life, but to his dad's generation was more boring and lonely like nothing else to do but to spend time in work which was a sad feeling to his kids. In additionally, Braiker showed love and affection and moreover he touched his readers thoughts to understand how to be a men or dad to his kids especially those father who would be more like to be him, such an interesting dad.

    1. I sympathized with her opinion. Especially, I thought it is true that Braiker's generation was more interesting and self attachment to living thing which can make a happy life, but to his dad's generation was more boring and lonely like nothing else to do but to spend time in work which was a sad feeling to his kids. In Japan, almost of all fathers do like his dad's generation and a lot of children feel sad or don't feel love for their father. This situation is so bad. I want Japanese stereotype of nurse to change soon.

    2. I think that this persons opinion is very interesting and true. I know by reading this article that Braiker's generation was more interesting and can make their kids happy. I believe that if a dad focuses more on his children then they'll be very comfortable with him. Even dads nowadays still focus more on work that on their children's. This is a hard thing to do but you'll be glad to see the results.

    3. Her comment is very true. I believe that Braiker's dad was shocked to see how his son was looking after the baby. Because of the cultural shift, things have changed and i believe that is what she is saying in her comment. I like how you mentioned love and affection towards the kids . Great comment.

    4. I think this is Janet? ". . . but to his dad's generation was more boring and lonely like nothing else to do but to spend time in work which was a sad feeling to his kids." This is an interesting point. To be considered a man, even now, having fun would include hanging out with buddies after work even in this day and age. Great insight woahna1. You definitely got me thinking there.

  3. Modern-day dads focus on thinking or careing for their kids than on the traditional breadwinner role. Previous generation dads spent their time to work so much and they thought that only women should care their children. However, modern-day dads spend more time for children and men became to care children with women. As the reasons, he think that fathers marry later than fathers of previous generation, women can work like men, and cahnged gender role nowadays. Moreover, modern-day dads became to thinkthat they want to share time with their children and show love for children by their actions.

    1. I agree on her paragraph. I believe that in this reading the previous dads spent more time on working and providing than on their children's. Modern-day dads like Braiker shows love and affection to their kids and also knows every single detail about their children's. If woman can work like man than that means that man can do the woman's role too...

    2. I also agree with her comment. I believe that dads nowadays are changed by how their fathers treated them while they were kids. That includes insufficient time with them which enabled them to change that old way of life their fathers showed them and became a "mom helper" to their wives. Great comment.

    3. I also agree on やすよ's post because it is true what she stated: "I believe that in this reading the previous dads spent more time working and providing on their children's" because it is true what she stated. Nowadays dads tend to spend more time with there child than fathers back then. This was how Braiker acted towards Freya, he took care of her like she needed it.

  4. The new generation dads differ from the old generation dads because they also do the types of jobs that the moms do while the old dads do not. Dads , nowadays, are also doing at home front work which basically was all moms did back in the old days. Braiker's dad was surprised to see how his son was looking after the baby because to him, well, it's supposed to be a women's job. His dad really got him to think about how things have changed compared to back when his dad was younger. He knows for a fact that things have changed because of how he is also helping his wife with stuff but it's not only him, but also other dads which he has seen that have also helped their wives with their duties.

    1. Hence, the cultural shift. Although shifts in gender roles are present, people have yet to get over the stereotyping name calling such as 'Mr. Mom' or should we say 'Mrs. Dad' since moms are gradually moving into male's territories being the breadwinners of the family instead of their usual household roles which includes 'nurturing' the children. I feel that Braiker's intention is not to help the wife with her 'household duties' but to let his daughter know that he will always be there for her. He wants to show all dads, that they also play a crucial role in the upbringing of their children without leaving all up to the moms.

    1. I agree on what Yolani posted. It was true what she stated about Braiker. His dad was shocked when he sniffed the bottom of Freya to check if she had left a dump. he was very surprised that his son could do what he couldnt, what he had never done. This shows how dads then differ from dads now.

    2. I also agree her post. Braiker's action to snffed his daughter's bottom might be so shocking for his dad and he never thought to o it in his life. The difference of the sense of value beween modern-day and previous generation is very interesting.

  6. According to braiker modern day fathers differ a lot from fathers back then. Fathers nowadays tend to look after their child more often than a father back then. He saw it in a whole different level. Braiker didnt let his wife do all the babysitting, yet he helped her with it. Braiker watched over Freya even though he had worked. He gave her the love and affection that she needed.
